No. 1 Wisconsin wins Ice Breaker Tournament

Badgers beat Union, 4-0 to claim trophy

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — The No.1 Wisconsin women's hockey team won the championship game of the Ice Breaker Tournament after a 4-0 shutout against Union this Saturday.

The Badgers earned their way to an in-season trophy with 8-1 and 4-0 wins against Vermont and Union. Lacey Eden, Cassie Hall and Caroline Harvey secured All-Tournament honors with their performances, while Ava McNaughton earned goaltender of the tournament.

Wisconsin's championship-clinching win over Union started early. After a two-goal performance yesterday, Cassie Hall put the Badgers up first with a power-play goal just five minutes into the first period.

The rest of the period remained scoreless, with goaltender Ava McNaughton making six saves and Wisconsin outshooting Union, 20-6.

Alternate captain Kelly Gorbatenko struck next, after receiving a pass from captain Caroline Harvey. Minutes later alternate captain Lacey Eden found the back of the net, putting Wisconsin up 3-0.

Eden didn't stop there, scoring one minute into the final period. Eden led all skaters in the tournament with five points (Three goals, two assists)

Wisconsin secured its fifth shutout of the season. McNaughton made 15 stops to improve her record to 8-0-0, with fourth shutouts.
