BOSTON - The Wisconsin men's rowing team kicked off its season on the Charles River at the Head of the Charles regatta- the world's largest multi-day rowing event, which was founded in 1965.
Wisconsin placed ninth in the men's championship four race with a time of 16:06.172. The winning crew from Cambridge University finished with a time of 5:15.844. At the 2024 Head of the Charles, Wisconsin placed 16th at 16:50.223.
The Badgers crossed the finish line at 14:37.019 and in 28th place for the men's championship eight race. The winner of the Championship Eight race was also from Cambridge University.
Up next: The Badgers head to New Jersey to compete at the Princeton Chase on Nov. 2.

Head Coach Beau Hoopman
"Both boats did significantly better than last year. The championship eight is probably one of the most competitive races of the year, and even the slightest mistake or wrong line can cause a cascade of issues. We were overtaken early by a really good CRC boat and rowed in their wake for most of the race.
We even avoided the wash around the longest turn on the course, which probably cost us about 10 seconds. We need to clean that up for the Princeton Chase; we'll row in our racing boats there with our telemetry so we can collect data between the two pieces.
The Charles is one of those races that you complete and then immediately move on from, and hopefully learn a valuable lesson. The four did great; way faster than last year. Hopefully that leads to some competition for the 1st eight going into November."
