
Men’s Tennis secures singles victories in day two of Big Ten action

Five Badgers reached the round of 16
MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin men's tennis team had five singles competitors advance to the round of 16 in the Big Ten Individual Championships on Friday at Nielsen Tennis Stadium. The Badgers also pitted two doubles pairs against each other in the doubles semifinal to start the day, with Matthew Fullerton and Patrik Meszaros advancing to tomorrow's doubles final.
To start off the day, four Wisconsin players squared off in doubles semifinal action. Matthew Fullerton and Patrik Meszaros emerged victorious over Oliver Olsson and Tomas Zlatohlavek, 6-2. Fullerton and Meszaros will take on Michigan State in the doubles final to begin action tomorrow at 9 a.m.
In singles play, a handful of Badgers advanced through to the round of 16. Tomas Zlatohlavek rallied past Danial Rakhmatullayev (Michigan State) 6-7, 6-2, 10-8. Zlatohlavek bounced back after dropping the first set and outlast his Michigan State opponent in the tiebreaker.
Meanwhile, Wisconsin's Patrik Meszaros, Edouard Aubert, Michael Minasyan and Ferdinand Kloesters all secured their singles wins in straight sets.
With five players in the round of 16, Wisconsin has more than any other competing school in the weekend event. Nebraska advanced four players to the round of 16, three of which will square off with Badger challengers.
Action begins again at 9 a.m. at Nielsen tomorrow, with singles play beginning at 9:45. Admission is free for fans.
