Wisconsin earns eight NCAA qualifying times at midseason invites

Maggie Wanezek collects first place finish in the 100 back

AUSTIN, Texas — The No. 17 Wisconsin women's swim team closed out day three of competition at the Texas Invite and the divers wrapped up day two at Ohio State, highlighted by a strong showing from sophomore Maggie Wanezek.

Wanezek set the tone early in the 100 back, putting together a first-place finish. The sophomore touched the wall in 49.95, breaking her personal best of 50.11 that she had set in the morning's preliminary sessions. The time marks a second-best all-time performance at UW.

In the 50 free, Abby Wanezek led a 5-6 finish with a time of 22.16 for a personal best and a seventh best all-time performance at UW. Junior Hailey Tierney finished just a hundredth of a second behind her.

The Wisconsin A 400 medley relay crew closed out the night with a top-10 performance in 3:31.25, earning an NCAA "B" cut.

Wisconsin also collected a total of six all-time top 10 times and eight NCAA qualifying times across night's the five events.

At the Ohio State Invite, junior diver Ryane Neal led the Badgers to the B Final, collecting 219.25 points.

The swimmers and divers will close out competition at the Texas and Ohio State Invites tomorrow. Preliminaries begin at 10 a.m. in Texas, with finals at 6 p.m. In Columbus, prelims begin at 9:30 a.m. and finals kick off at 5:30 p.m.
