Ottawa Senators draft pick helped Badgers to sweep over Minnesota
MADISON, Wis. – Three goals in two games played in Wisconsin's sweep of border-rival Minnesota helped freshman forward Blake Montgomery earn the Big Ten First Star of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
In Thursday's Big Ten opener against the Gophers, Montgomery lit the lamp 11:13 into the second period, putting home a pass to the net front from freshman forward Vasily Zelenov.

With his three-goal weekend over the Gophers, the freshman has four goals in three games, tallying his first-career goal on Saturday, Oct. 25, against Alaska. His four goals are enough to tie for eighth among rookies in the country, and he shares third on the roster in goals with senior forward Simon Tassy.
This marks Montgomery's first career Big Ten weekly honor and Wisconsin's third of the 2025-26 season. Freshman goaltender Daniel Hauser was the Badgers' most recent star of the week, earning the conference's second star on Oct. 21.
Montgomery and the No. 10/9 Badger men's hockey team travel to Ann Arbor to face No. 2 Michigan for its first conference road series of the year on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 7-8.
