Both Badgers earn December monthly honors
MADISON, Wis - Wisconsin women hockey's Caroline Harvey and Ava McNaughton both garnered WCHA monthly awards for December, the conference announced on Wednesday.Â
Caroline Harvey earned the WCHA Defender of the Month honor for the third time in a row. She recorded the game-winning goal in the Badgers' 2-1 series opener against No. 2 Ohio State and then put up a one-goal, two-assist performance in game two. Harvey leads all skaters in the NCAA this season in points (41) and assists (30).Â
Ava McNaughton was awarded the WCHA Goaltender of the Month honor from her performance in the first week of the season. McNaughton made 60 saves in the Ohio State matchup, with 25 saves in game one and 35 in game two - all while only allowing one goal in each contest. McNaughton's 35 saves in game two are the second-most in her career, and the most she's ever saved while only allowing one goal or less.
The junior goaltender has six shutouts so far in the first half of the season, and her 1.27 goals against average is the second lowest in the country. Last season, McNaughton was the 2024-25 HCA Goaltender of the Year and WCHA Goaltender of the Year Finalist.
Both Harvey and McNaughton represented the United States in the 2025 Rivalry Series against Team Canada. The two players are in contention to make the 2026 Olympic Roster this February. Team USA will anounce its roster on Friday, January 2 on NBC's TODAY broadcast at approximately 7:25 a.m. CT.
