MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin men's tennis team tallied its fifth victory of the season on Wednesday with a 7-0 decision over Illinois State. The Badgers (5-1) claimed the doubles point and saw six singles victories against the Redbirds. The Badgers were in control all evening, not dropping a single set.

This is the Badgers third sweep of the season (DePaul, Jan. 18, 7-0 and Drake, Feb. 2, 4-0). The Badgers are now 5-1 to start the spring for the third time since the 2020 season. The last time UW posted three shutout dual match victories was in 2023. 

The Badgers were well matched in doubles play, but ultimately saw match wins on every court to secure the point. The sophomore partnership of Oliver Olsson and Tomas Zlatohlavek continued to shine, winning 6-3. They improved to 4-2 in the No. 1 doubles slot this season. Wisconsin saw back-to-back 6-4 victories at both No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to take the 1-0 lead.

In singles play, Michael Minasyan quickly secured the second team point with a commanding 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1 over Illinois State's Tomas Valencia. Sophomore Tomas Zlatohlavek followed suit at No. 2 singles with a dominant 6-1, 6-2 win over Adrian Dibildox. Freshman Sachiv Kumar clinched the Badgers match win with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 6 singles. He improved to 4-1 in his debut season.

Freshmen Patrik Meszaros and Edouard Aubert remain undefeated during singles dual play this season with wins at No. 3 and No. 5 respectively. Meszaros is also 5-0 in doubles play during dual matches this spring. Sophomore Matthew Fullerton completed the Badger sweep with a 7-5, 6-4 victory at No. 4 singles over Christian Capacci.

Wisconsin improves to a perfect 24-0 in the all-time series against the Redbirds.

Up Next: The Badgers travel to face Notre Dame on Friday, February 21 in the first road match of the spring season. The Badgers and Fighting Irish will begin action at 3 p.m. (CT).
