Wisconsin completes perfect weekend with win over Drake
MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin men's tennis team tallied its second match victory of the weekend with a 4-0 decision over Drake at Nielsen Tennis Stadium on Sunday. The Badgers dominated from the first serve, claiming the doubles point and winning three singles matches to clinch the win. The Badgers dropped only one set in the victory.
The Badgers are off to a 4-1 start for the second time across the last three seasons. Wisconsin started the 2023 campaign with a 5-1 record. The Badgers have now scored a pair of shutout wins, (DePaul, Jan. 18, 7-0) this season. UW posted three shutout dual match victories in 2023.
In doubles action, the Badgers' No. 1 pair of Oliver Olsson and Tomas Zlatohlavek assembled an unblemished 6-0 sweep, quickly followed by Patrik Meszaros and Michael Minasyan winning 6-1 at No. 2.
In singles play, Michael Minasyan did not drop a single game in his 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 over Drake's Ben Johnson. At No. 3, Patrik Meszaros improved to 5-0 on the season with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Christian Winstead. Meszaros did not lose a single set across his two matches this weekend at No. 3 singles.
The Badgers clinched the match with a victory by Oliver Olsson at No. 6 singles. In his first singles match of the dual season, Olsson scored a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Drake's Will Ecklund.
With the win, Wisconsin now holds a 6-5 edge in the all-time series with the Bulldogs.
Up Next: The Badgers host Illinois State on Wednesday, Feb. 19 to wrap up a stretch of six straight home matches to start 2025 dual action. The Badgers and Redbirds will begin action at 4:30 p.m. at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison.
