White, Oduocha make national noise in throwing events
NORMAL, Ill. - The throwers from the Wisconsin track and field program earned four first-place finishes at the Redbird Tune-up, highlighted by noteworthy performances turned in by Joseph White in both the weight throw and shot put.Â
White was the standout on Friday night, as the Kenosha native finished in first place with a heave of 76 feet, 6 ½ inches (23.33m) to advance to No. 2 all-time in UW Indoor Track history for farthest throw. The senior followed it up with another top-10 performance this time en route to a victory in the shot put. White tallied a toss of 64-3 ¼ (19.59m), which slotted him at No. 4 all-time in his first season as a Badger. He emerged as the new No. 2 in the Big Ten in a second separate event, in addition to being ranked No. 6 in the nation.Â
Chikere Oduocha got her name on the national scale, rising to No. 21 with the help of a toss of 70-1 (21.36m), a new personal best. She came in a close second place, right behind her teammate in Taylor Kesner, who won with a heave of 70-2 ¼ (21.39m)
