
Take your mark: Wisconsin hosts Badger Invite

MADISON, Wis. — The men's and women's Wisconsin swimming and diving teams will wrap up the regular season at home for the Badger Invitational at Soderholm Aquatic Center on Friday, Feb. 7, and Saturday, Feb. 8. The meet will begin at 4 p.m. on Friday and the action will continue on Saturday at 10 a.m. and then wrap up at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
Before the Badgers dive in, here are five things to know:
1. LAST TIME OUT: The swimming teams last competed against Northwestern on Jan. 18 for Senior Day. The women completed a clean sweep, winning 205.5-93.5. The men couldn't secure the final two events and fell 136.5-163.5. The divers traveled to the Tim Welsh Class on Jan. 24-25, but the swimmers opted out. Ryane Neal secured a Zone qualification on the 3m to join her teammate Jan Lanser.
2. TOP-25: The men (3-2, 1-2) have fallen out of the Top 25, but are receiving votes (15). The women (6-1, 3-1) currently sit at No. 12 for the second month in a row. The women have only dropped one meet all season, against Michigan, 115-238. The Badger Invite will include the Illinois women, Green Bay, Milwaukee and Purdue. None of those teams are ranked in the Top 25.
3. SCHOLAR ALL-AMERICA: The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) announced the selection of 781 teams from 459 institutions for the Scholar All-America Team for the Fall 2024 semester. These teams are recognized for their outstanding academic achievements. Both men's and women's programs were selected with the Badger women earning a 3.63 team GPA for the fall semester, while the men finished the fall semester with a 3.00 team GPA.
4. B1G LEADERS: For the women, Hailey Tierney ranks fourth in the 50 free for an NCAA B cut, and Abby Carlson ranks fifth in the 200 free and fourth in the 500 free, both earning NCAA B cuts. Paige McKenna ranks fourth in the 1650 free with an NCAA B cut. Maggie Wanezek and Phoebe Bacon hold the one and two spots in the 100 back, earning NCAA B cuts. Bacon and Wanezek also hold top-three spots for the 200 back, as Bacon sits at No. 1 with an NCAA A cut, and Wanezek checks in at No. 3 with a B cut. Hazal Ozkan holds the No. 5 spot in the 100 breast with an NCAA B cut and the No. 4 spot in the 200 breast with an NCAA B cut. Bacon holds the top spot in the 200 IM with an NCAA B cut, while Callahan Dunn holds the top spot in the 400 IM with an NCAA B cut. For the men, Taiko Torepe-Ormsby sits at No. 5 in the 50 free for an NCAA B cut. Yigit Aslan ranks fourth in the 1000 free. Dominik Torok sits at No. 3 in the 400 IM for an NCAA B cut.
