INDIANAPOLIS  – Thanks to
Jason Swarens victory in the shot put and three runner-up showings, the Wisconsin men's track and field team took third at the 2025 Big Ten Indoor Track and Field Championship on Saturday.Â
UW totaled 83 points during the two-day meet, behind Oregon in first with 106 and USC in second with 99.5. This marks the program's third consecutive year with a top-3 finish. The Badgers triumphed across numerous events, including a conference title in the shot put and four podium finishes on the track.
Swarens led the way with a dominant victory in the shot put with a personal best throw of 66 feet, 5 inches (20.24m) to claim the Big Ten Title. This performance also etches the Terre Haute, Indiana natives legacy in the Badger record books as the school record holder. It is also the fourth-farthest throw in the NCAA this season.Â
Teammate
Joseph White joined him on the podium, rounding out the top-3 with a throw of 63-0 ¾ (19.22m) which was the senior's second podium finish on the weekend.
Andrew Stone took ninth with a throw of 60-3 ¼ (18.37m) while
Kyle Clabough finished the event in 17th with a mark of 56-9 ½ (17.31m).
On the track,
Jalen Williams delivered a thrilling career-best performance in the 400-meter final, clocking 45.94 seconds to finish runner-up and to break his own school record in the event.Â
The distance events continued to be a strength for the Badgers, with
Adam Spencer and
Bob Liking going 2-3 in the 3000 meters, crossing the line at 7:55.38 and 7:58.55 respectively. Freshman
Liam Newhart built on his sub-4 mile performance in qualifiers to finish fifth in the mile with a time of 4:05.35.
In the 60-meter hurdles, Gio Wearing ran an impressive race, taking second with a time of 7.65.
Up Next: Wisconsin shifts its focus to the NCAA Indoor Championships, where qualified athletes will compete, announced Tuesday. This years championships will take place Friday, March 14 to Saturday, March 15, 2025, at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, VA.
