Badger captain heads west to begin pro career on amateur tryout
MADISON, Wis. – Graduate student forward Owen Lindmark has signed a amateur tryout (ATO) contract with the San Diego Gulls, the AHL affiliate of the NHL's Anaheim Ducks, the organization announced late Wednesday night.
Lindmark, who becomes the third Badger pro signing since the season ended, finished his six-year UW career with 31 goals and 74 points in 173 games played while missing nearly all of his junior season due to injury. The forward served as team captain for the 2024-25 season, tallying five goals and nine points in 37 games played this year.
A native of Naperville, Illinois, Lindmark is a penalty-kill expert and leads the country with eight career-shorthanded goals. He also ranks among the national leaders in face-off win percentage and finished the 2024-25 season on top of the Big Ten with a 60.4-percent face-off success rate (among players with at least 50 face-offs taken).
The forward is a four-time Academic All-Big Ten skater and was picked in the fifth round of the 2019 NHL Draft (137th overall) by the Florida Panthers.
As a graduate student in 2023-24, Lindmark set career highs, tallying 11 goals and 21 points in 28 games. He was also the Badgers' recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award and was a finalist for Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year.
During his 2022-23 senior season, he tallied four goals and nine points, including two short-handed tallies to share the team lead. Lindmark scored one goal and played in nine games as a junior in 2021-22 before having his season cut short due to injury.
As a sophomore in 2021, the forward was a member of the Badger's Big Ten regular season conference championship-winning roster, racking up four goals and 13 assists for 17 points in 27 games.
For the 2019-20 season, Lindmark scored his first career goal on the penalty kill on Oct. 1, 2019, before going on to record six goals and 17 points in 36 games as a freshman.
Lindmark leads the roster with five career multi-goal games and 14 career multi-point games, and he is tied for third in the UW record book with 173 games played. He is a one-time Big Ten Star of the Week and the 2024 recipient of the team's WHA-TV Jim Santulli 7th Man Award.
Before becoming a Badger, Lindmark skated for the U.S. National Team Development Program.
