
Kehrer turning pro with AHL’s Springfield Thunderbirds

Fifth-year defenseman beginning professional career in Massachusetts
MADISON, Wis. – Fifth-year senior defenseman Anthony Kehrer has signed an amateur tryout contract for the remainder of this season and a one-year AHL contract for the 2025-26 season with the Springfield Thunderbirds of the AHL, the club announced on Friday.
Springfield serves as the AHL affiliate of the NHL's St. Louis Blues.
Known for his stellar defensive play and booming body checks, the 2025 Big Ten Sportsmanship Award winner led the Badgers this past season at plus-13, while chipping in a goal and 12 points.
Twice serving the Wisconsin men's hockey program as one of its alternate captains, the fifth-year finished his career with five goals and 32 points in 166 career games played.
The Winnipeg, Manitoba, native is a three-time academic All-Big Ten skater who also owns a Suter Family Unsung Hero team award from his time at Wisconsin. He earned a degree in personal finance and is working on a master's degree in real estate.
Kehrer becomes the fourth Badger to sign contract with a professional team since the season concluded, joining Daniel Laatsch (NHL - Pittsburgh), Ryland Mosley (AHL - Cleveland) and Owen Lindmark (AHL - San Diego).
