COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The trio of
Jason Swarens,
Jalen Williams and Gio Wearing turned in memorable performances during the final day of the 44 Farms Team Invitational hosted by Texas A&M on Saturday afternoon.
Swarens won the shot put with a heave of 66 feet, 2 1/2 inches (20.18 meters), which not only is a meet record, but is the top throw in the country this season. It marked the first time this year that Swarens, the NCAA runner-up last year in the outdoor shot put, competed in the event.
Williams set a school record in the 400 meters with a time of 45.49 seconds, breaking LeRoy Dixson's previous record of 45.63 set in 1983. The junior took third in the event and ranks second in the Big Ten Conference in it.
Wearing finished second in the 110 hurdles with a wind-aided time of 13.24. That mark is tied for the fastest time in school history in all conditions with UW legend Reggie Torian.
Joseph White and Andrew Stone turned in top-10 performances in the shot put as White had a mark of 61-5 (18.72m) while Stone was seventh with a heave of 60-10 3/4 (18.56m).
Meanwhile in Platteville, J.J. Williams took third in the 800 meters at the UW-Platteville Invitational, stopping the clock in 1:53.14.
Up Next: The Badgers are back on the road, this time returning to California to compete in the annual Bryan Clay Invitational from Wednesday, Apr. 16 to Friday, Apr. 18. More information on the meet info and schedule can be found on our website.
