MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin men's tennis team's comeback effort fell short against USC Sunday afternoon. The Trojans took an early 3-0 lead, and were able to hold off the Badgers and secure the 4-1 match victory.Â
The Badgers were well-matched in doubles action against the Trojans. Michael Minasyan and Patrik Meszaros found themselves down 2-4 before they won four games in a row to seal the 6-4 comeback victory on court two. USC saw 6-4 triumphs on courts one and three to secure the 1-0 lead heading into singles play.Â
In singles action the Trojans quickly extended their lead to 3-0 with straight set victories on courts four and six. The Badgers put up a fight on the other four courts, with all of them going to a third set.Â
Freshman Patrik Meszaros ended his impressive debut season with an intense third set tiebreak victory at No. 2 singles. This win marked his 20th of the season (including the fall 2024 tournaments), tying Billy Bertha for seventh most freshman wins all-time.Â
Junior Michael Minasyan continued to impress the fans at Nielsen with a 6-4 set one victory against No. 17 ranked Peter Makk. Minasyan's match went to a third set before it was left unfinished.Â
Wisconsin ends the season 3-10 in the Big Ten and 9-12 overall.Â
