SEATTLE, Wash. – The Wisconsin men's tennis team came up short against the No. 43 ranked Washington Huskies on Sunday afternoon. The Huskies won the doubles point and three singles matches at No. 2, No. 4, and No. 5 to seal the 4-1 victory. Wisconsin's Sachiv Kumar had a straight set victory at No. 6 singles to give the Badgers their lone point.Â
Washington took the doubles point with match victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 slots. The nationally ranked partnership of Zharyn and Bouchelaghem defeated Wisconsin's Zlatohlavek and Olsson quickly, winning 6-1. The matches at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles were tightly contested, but a 7-5 victory was enough for the Huskies to secure the 1-0 lead.Â
A bright spot of the afternoon was the dominant performance of freshman Sachiv Kumar in the No. 6 singles slot. Kumar cruised to a straight set victory over Washington's Rohan Belday.Â
Wisconsin is now 3-7 in Big Ten play and 9-9 overall.Â
Up Next: The Wisconsin men's tennis team returns to Madison to face the No. 38 ranked Nebraska Huskers on Saturday, April 12. The match is set to begin at noon, and admission is free for fans at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.Â
