Straight From the Track
Director of Cross Country and Track & Field
On the team's finish:
"Our team's energy out there today was next level. The guys fed off this energy and once Adam got the ball rolling with his 1500 meters win, the rest of the team responded, event after event. We got one big performance after another. Gio's win in the 110 hurdles was very special and Jalen's second place finish in the 400 meters got a lot of guts fired up.
Joseph White (2nd) and Jake Schaefer (8th) added some valuable points in the discus. In the tradition of great past Badger teams, our 5K crew put up 21 huge points after a disappointing 10K on Friday night."
Senior Adam Spencer
On his win:
"I think this one was probably the biggest one, obviously with Oregon and Washington in the new Big Ten with some quality athletes in there. It feels good to win, I feel like I'm just building momentum throughout the whole year, coming into shape at the right time."
Senior Joseph White
On his showing
"I was happy that some of my hard work paid off a little bit and can't complain with how I did today. I'm just excited to keep improving."
Senior Bob Liking
On bouncing back:
"For our guys to come and pick up the 10K guys, it was really great. Coach told me some things that I needed to hear, and shoutout to Archie (Noakes), he did a lot of work…I was definitely down after the 10K, it was tough, I went in as the favorite and I just blew up and there was nobody else to blame but me. I was really down, and coach and I had a heart-to-heart, told me a lot of things I needed to hear and the boys did such a good job of picking me up. It just made me really proud to be a Badger."
Up Next: Select Badgers will head south for the NCAA Outdoor First Round hosted by Texas A&M in College Station, TX. The meet begins Wednesday, May 28 and continues through Saturday, May 31. Qualified athletes will have a chance to punch their ticket to the 202T NCAA Championships on June 5. The list of qualifiers will be announced later this week.
