
Colyer and Fuerbringer Named to AVCA Player of the Year Watch List

Pair of Badgers represent UW on national watch list
MADISON, Wis. – A pair of AVCA All-Americans, Charlie Fuerbringer and Mimi Colyer of the Wisconsin volleyball team, have been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) 2025 Division I Player of the Year Watch List, announced by the AVCA today.
Sophomore setter Charlie Fuerbringer is coming off an exciting freshman campaign where she was named AVCA All-American Third Team, AVCA North All-Region Freshman of the Year, All-Big Ten Second Team, and a unanimous selection the All-Big Ten Freshman Team.
New to Wisconsin, but not to volleyball, three-time AVCA All-American Mimi Colyer joins Fuerbringer to the prestigious list. Colyer earned All-American honors each of her three seasons at Oregon, a three-time AVCA Northwest All-Region honoree, including 2024 Player of the Year. The 6-foot-3 outside hitter is also a three-time All-Pac 12 award winner.
The last Badger to be named AVCA National Player of the Year was in 2023 when the AVCA named outside hitter Sarah Franklin. In 2024, Franklin was also a Semifinalist to the prestigious award. Before Franklin, Badger great, Dana Rettke earned the honor in 2021, coming off a National Championship.
The AVCA Player of the Year Watch list consists of 30 athletes, including a total of 10 from the Big Ten. Additional phases of the Watch List include a mid-season addition of athletes to the list in October, a list of semifinalists in November, and the announcement of the finalists in December. The Player of the Year award will be revealed in Kansas City at the AVCA Awards Banquet on Friday, December 19.
