No. 21 Wisconsin looks to extend undefeated start

MADISON, Wis. – No. 21 Wisconsin continues its road stand traveling to face the LSU Tigers on Thursday, Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. (CT).

Here are five things to know:

1. Wilkins at the helm
Head coach Paula Wilkins is in her 19th season at Wisconsin as the winningest coach in program history with a 207-106-61 record. She ranks second in the Big Ten in career victories (326) and second in conference titles (8).

2. Baumann making an impact
Hailey Baumann has been a cornerstone of the Badgers' defense this season, earning Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors in week two of competition. The junior from South Lyon, Mich., played a key role in Wisconsin's 4-0 shutout win over Central Michigan, recording an assist, before netting the game-winning goal in a 2-1 victory at Marquette. She started both matches, logging all 90 minutes against the Golden Eagles, and anchored a defense that allowed just one goal over the weekend. Baumann has started every game this season and has played 332 minutes, the second-most among all field players on the team.

3. Last time out
Wisconsin handed Marquette its first loss of the season, earning a 2-1 victory on the road.

The Badgers wasted no time getting on the board, as Erin Connolly headed home a goal just two minutes into the match. Marquette answered in the 25th minute, converting a penalty kick to level the score at 1-1. Hailey Baumann restored the Badgers' advantage by heading in a corner kick from Ashley Martinez in the 63rd minute.Wisconsin controlled the match the rest of the way, finishing with advantages in shots (21-4), shots on goal (4-2), and corner kicks (5-3).

The win marks the program's first 4-0-0 start since at least 2008, with the Badgers hitting double-digit goals through four matches.

4. Scouting the Tigers
UW holds a 1-0-0 advantage in the all-time series against LSU, with the teams last meeting in 2023 when the Badgers earned a 3-0 victory in Madison.

LSU enters the matchup with a 2-2-0 record, most recently falling 2-1 to UCF. Ava Galligan leads the Tigers' offense with three goals and is the only player on the roster with multiple tallies this season. Jazmin Ferguson has added two assists, while goalkeeper Sophie Kevorkian has logged 332 minutes in net with a .692 save percentage.
