MADISON, Wis. — The Big Ten named three Badgers to the 2025-26 Men's Golfers to Watch List on Wednesday. Seniors Jacob Beckman and Spencer Turtz, as well as sophomore William Harned each earned preseason honors.
Beckman, a Middleton native, finished 12th individually at the 2024-25 Big Ten Championships, shooting +2 on 212 overall strokes. It marked the second consecutive season Beckman has placed in the top 15 at Big Tens, finishing 15th in 2023-24 at +12. The two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection also notched strong results in the fall of '24: He earned a personal-best second-place at the Purdue Fall Invitational, going -5 the card and setting a career-low of 211 overall strokes. He followed that up with another top-20 performance at the Badger Invitational, shooting +1 on his home course for a 17th-place finish.Â
Harned earned his stripes last season as a true freshman, appearing in 9-of-10 events for UW. He tied for 23rd at the Big Ten Championships at +6, the third lowest score of any freshmen. The Nashotah native paced the Badgers at several other events, shooting a team-best +3 at the Mason Rudolph Championship and finishing 37th. Last fall, Harned tied with Beckman in second at the Badger Invitational, while posting the lowest single-round score for a UW golfer at University Ridge in program history (66). Harned was also UW's highest finisher at the Schenkel Invitational, tying for 38th at +4
Turtz, a senior from Charlotte, brings back a myriad of experience with UW. He led the Badgers at last year's Seminole Intercollegiate, setting a three-round career-low 213 to finish 23rd at +3. He was second on the squad at the Schenkel Invite, trailing only Harned, tying for 44th at +5. In 2023-24 Turtz enjoyed a strong run-of-form during the spring, posting sub-220 scores in three consecutive tournaments. He was essential during UW's team victory at the Invitational at the Ford, going +1 to tie for 25th.Â
All three Badges return to action on Sept. 7 at the Gopher Invitational in Minnesota. They'll return home two weeks later for the annual Badger Invitational, now hosted at TPC Wisconsin, on Sept. 22-23.Â
