MADISON, Wis. – Caroline Harvey will serve as captain of the Wisconsin women's hockey team for the 2025-26 season, the team announced on Friday. Four alternates were also announced in addition to Harvey: Lacey Eden, Laila Edwards, Kelly Gorbatenko and Marianne Picard.
Harvey, a New Hampshire native, is a two-time AHCA first-team All-American and two-time WCHA Defender of the Year. Harvey served as co-captain last season, alongside last year's Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award winner, Casey O'Brien. The defender gathered 137 points across three seasons for Wisconsin, and was recently named the WCHA Preseason Player of the Year.
Graduate
Lacey Eden will serve as an alternate captain for the second straight season. Eden has collected 169 points in her time at Wisconsin. She is a second-team All-WCHA member, a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and a 2024-25 Big Ten Distinguished Scholar.Â
A second year alternate captain, Laila Edwards is a senior forward from Cleveland Heights, Ohio. Alongside Harvey and O'Brien, Edwards finished the 2024-25 season as a top-three Patty Kazmaier award finalist. She scored 35 goals and earned 71 points in her junior season and was a first-team All-American.
Named an alternate captain for the first time in her career, Marriane Picard is a Repentigny, Quebec native and a three-time WCHA All-Academic team honoree. The fifth year forward had eight goals and 10 assists in the 2024-25 season. Picard appeared in all 41 games last season and was named an Academic All-Big Ten member for the third time in her career. She also was Wisconsin's nominee for the Big Ten's Jackie Robinson Community and Impact Award.
Junior forward
Kelly Gorbatenko is the final alternate after a breakout sophomore campaign. In her 41 games played last season, Gorbatenko tallied 15 goals and 23 assists, and was named an Academic All-Big Ten member. This season, Gorbatenko will suit up with her two younger sisters - Nicole and Rachel - who join the team as freshmen.

The Badgers open their season with a two-game road trip against Bemidji State on Sept. 26 and 27, before playing their home opener against Maine at LaBahn Arena on Oct. 3 and 4.
