No. 6 Badgers tally fourth straight sweep, defeat No. 21 Georgia Tech

Historic offensive night leads to first road victory

ATLANTA - In a re-match of last year's NCAA Tournament battle, the No. 6 Wisconsin volleyball team went on the road and swept No. 21 Georgia Tech (25-22, 25-17, 25-19) to earn their fourth-straight victory.

The Badgers (5-1) came out swinging in set one against the Yellow Jackets (5-3), as they put together their strongest offensive showing of the season. Outside hitters Grace Egan and Mimi Colyer were the catalysts, as they guided UW to a hitting percentage of .600 in set one.

Georgia Tech was able to provide a response after falling behind early, but Wisconsin rattled off the last four points to earn the early advantage, highlighted by a kill apiece from Colyer and Egan. Wisconsin came out on top, 25-22 in the first set.

The Badger Block came alive in set two, as the front row provided three blocks in total to put away the Yellow Jackets by the set's conclusion. Senior Carter Booth was in the middle of it all, tallying a total of three blocks on the evening to inch closer (five) to the 500-block mark in her career.

During the latter half of the third set, Wisconsin utilized a 4-0 run to separate from Georgia Tech and secure the win, as the serving run of outside hitter Una Vajagic forced multiple errors on the offensive end for the Yellow Jackets.

UW finished with their highest hitting percentage of the season, swinging at a .488 rate (51 - 10 - 84). The .488 mark is tied for third-highest in program history in a three-set match.

Setter Charlie Fuerbringer paced the Badgers on the offensive side of the ball, earning her second double-double in as many games with 40 assists and 10 digs.

Colyer and Egan were the main beneficiaries, as they combined to produce 33 kills at O'Keefe Gymnasium. Colyer racked up 19 kills on the evening, swinging at her highest clip of the season at .567 (19 - 2 - 30). The senior has accumulated double-digit kills in each match this season.

Egan was more of the same, providing 14 kills and six digs from the right side. Middle blocker Alicia Andrew continued to be efficient for the Badgers, as she had seven kills on 12 attempts and just one hitting error. Vajagic followed suit with zero errors and five kills.

Straight from the Court
Head Coach Kelly Sheffield (on what stood out in tonight's match): "Early on with our serving, I thought they did a good job of controlling the ball. We started breaking them down a little bit, and as the match was going on, we weren't pressing behind the service line. Just trying to put in really good balls, and eventually we kind of got them."

(On the performance of outside hitters Mimi Colyer and Grace Egan): "Mimi was great, fantastic. Grace, we went to her a lot early and she kind of found some success in that first set. .364 with 14 kills in three sets, we'll take that all of the time. Offensively, we were awfully good."
