Four Badgers finish in top-half of field
MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin women's golf team finished seventh at the Badger Invitational Monday, shooting +21 as a team during the UW hosted tournament at the University-Ridge Golf Course.Â
Four Badgers from the starting lineup finished in the top-40, led by Kate Brody. The junior keyed in on consistency this week, firing three consecutive 73s to finish +3, and in 16th-place overall. She closed Tuesday out with an even back-nine after going +1 on the front.Â
Sophomore Lauren Sammon also finished in the top-20, at 19th. She showed resilience after two bogeys on the back-nine, immediately getting them back with quick birdies to finish even on the day.Â
Maryland transfer Tammy Wu notched 28th in her first Badger Invitational at +7, highlighted by 73s on Sunday and Tuesday. Sophomore Izzi Stricker rounded out the Badgers lineup, finishing 58th at +15, with a strong final-round of +3.Â
Three true freshman Badgers competed individually this week, with Elyssa Abdullah shining in her collegiate debut. The Illinois native began the final-round at +6, but shot a -1, 71, on Tuesday to rise 15 spots and finish 19th. Grace Slocum finished 40th at +9, while Hadley Ashton came in 75th.
From the Course -- Head Coach Todd Oehrlein:
"It's always an honor to host our Badger Invitational. I want to thank the staff at U-Ridge for all they do. I was proud of how we finished today. That's an important trait for good teams. It was great to see Elyssa play well in her first college tournament. Kate was steady all tournament and she should find some confidence moving forward. We have plenty to continue improving on, and I'm excited to get back out there with them this weekend in Oklahoma."
Up Next: UW hits the road for a quick turnaround to Oklahoma for the Schooner Fall Classic, hosted by OU. The women tee off on Saturday and will play three-rounds over the course of three days.
