Badgers Shine with Multiple Wins at Wisconsin Midwest Invite

Onwunili, Williams, Omotesa and Clabough headline strong day for Wisconsin in Chicago
CHICAGO – The Wisconsin men's track and field team turned in an impressive showing at the Badgers Midwest Invite on Saturday at Gately Track, posting multiple event victories and several personal bests against a strong field.
Freshman Joshua Onwunili led the way in the sprints, capturing the 60 meters title in 6.87 seconds after qualifying fastest in the prelims with a 6.83. Senior Jalen Williams added a third-place finish in the final with a time of 7.02, while Micah Walker took fourth in 7.07 and Farraj Al Amin placed sixth, crossing the line in 7.22. Lorenz Forsmann rounded out Badger representation in the final, clocking a personal-best 7.37 in the prelims.
Williams and Walker continued their success in the 300 meters, going 1-2 with Williams winning in 34.10 and Walker finishing just behind in 34.32. Forsmann followed in third with a time of 35.05 and Al Amin took fifth in 35.37.
In the 600 meters, Zion Omotesa delivered a standout performance, winning the race in a personal-best 1:18.15.
The Badgers also had a strong day in the hurdles and jumps. Darius Jones Jr. earned second in the 60-meter hurdles, running 8.21 in the final after qualifying in 8.48. Jack Schmeling also advanced to the final and placed sixth with a time of 8.90. Jones doubled back in the pole vault, finishing third with a clearance of 15 feet, 7 inches (4.75m), while Nathan Nelson was second at 16-6 ¾ (5.05m)
Schmeling added another podium finish in the high jump, clearing 6-0 ¾ (1.85m) for third place.
In the throws, Kyle Clabough dominated the shot put, winning the event with a best mark of 58-3 ¾ (17.77m).
Up Next: The Badgers head south to the Indiana Invitational in Bloomington, Ind., Jan. 16-17.
