
Badgers Light Up Penn Elite With Records

Williams, Hilby and Ivri headline standout Saturday in Philadelphia and Champaign
PHILADELPHIA – The Wisconsin men's track and field team delivered a statement performance Saturday at the Penn Elite, piling up records, NCAA-leading marks and program history inside the Ott Center for Track & Field.
Senior Jalen Williams led the way on the oval, winning the 400 meters in 46.56 seconds to set a meet record, facility record and new NCAA and DI No. 5 all-time mark. Williams later anchored Wisconsin's 4x400 relay, teaming with Patrick Hilby, Andrew Casey and Zion Omotesa to place fourth in 3:10.83. Lorenz Forsmann added a solid showing in the quarter mile, finishing 21st in 49.62.
The Badgers dominated the 800 meters, going 1-2 behind a historic run from Hilby, who clocked 1:47.36 for the win. The performance broke the meet record, moved Hilby from No. 10 to No. 2 on Wisconsin's indoor all-time list and stands as the No. 1 NCAA and DI time this season. Henry Risser followed closely in second at 1:48.47, a mark that ranks No. 9 nationally and No. 6 in DI this year and slots No. 8 in the Wisconsin record books. Omotesa rounded out the Badgers in 12th, crossing the line in 1:52.02.
In the sprints, Joshua Onwunili continued his breakout season. He ran a personal-best 6.77 in the 60-meter prelims to qualify for the final and move to No. 10 on Wisconsin's indoor all-time list, then finished fourth in the final with a time of 6.79. Onwunili also placed seventh in the 200 meters with a time of 21.63.
Distance standout Matan Ivri delivered a historic collegiate mile debut, finishing third in 3:59.49 to become the 13th Badger to break four minutes. The time also set a new Israeli national record, making Ivri the first Israeli athlete to run sub-4 in the mile. Wisconsin placed four runners in the top nine, with Liam Newhart in fourth, Andrew Casey in seventh and Archie Noakes in ninth with times of 4:00.36, 4:01.57 and 4:03.64 respectively.
Noakes doubled back in the elite 3000 meters, placing second with a personal-best 7:51.25, a time that ranks No. 13 in DI this season and No. 9 in the Wisconsin record books. Johnny Livingstone finished 11th with a time of 8:00.68.
Wisconsin also picked up key results in their field events at the Fighting Illini Invitational and Combined Events. Nicholas Godbehere made his season debut, placing second in the shot put with a heave of 58 feet, 11 ⅕ inches (17.97m), while Kyle Clabough finished fifth with a toss of 56-10 ¼ (17.33m). In the pole vault, Nathan Nelson took sixth with a clearance of 15-6 ¼ (4.73m).
