Harvey, Simms, Sapovalivova shine in Bemidji State series
MADISON, Wis -- The Wisconsin women's hockey team had three players honored with WCHA weekly awards on Monday. Seniors Caroline Harvey and Kirsten Simms won Defender and Forward of the Week, while Adéla Šapovalivová picked up Rookie of the Week.
UW enjoyed a series sweep against conference opponent Bemidji State over the weekend, earning victories of 10-3 and 6-1. Each of the three Badgers who earned awards shined in the series.
Harvey's hat trick was just the third ever time a UW defender had recorded three goals in a game, after Sis Paulsen did so twice during the 1999. She finished the weekend with four goals and four assists, earning her sixth Defender of the Week award of the season.
Simms' hat trick was the second of the season, and the fourth of her career. She finished the weekend with five goals and four assists, leading all WCHA skaters. With 227 points now in her career, Simms moves into fifth on Wisconsin's career points list.
Šapovalivová had a tremendous series, setting new career highs in game one in both assists and points (four). She finished with five assists over the weekend, tied for the most among WCHA players. The Czechia-native earned her first career WCHA weekly honor.
The series against Bemidji State is the last for the three players as each now depart for the 2026 Winter Olympic games in Italy. The three of them, along with their teammates Ava McNaughton and Laila Edwards are planned to return to Wisconsin in time for the postseason.
The remaining Badgers continue action this week at No. 3 Minnesota, playing the Gophers on Friday Jan. 30 and Saturday Jan. 31.
