Ivri breaks Israeli national record, moves to No. 3 in Wisconsin record books
BOSTON – The Wisconsin men's track and field team opened a busy Friday with strong performances across three meets, highlighted by a historic 3000-meter run from Matan Ivri at the David Hemery Valentine Invite and multiple personal bests at the Blue Demon Alumni Invite and Jarvis Scott Invitational.
Out east, Ivri won the 3000 meters in 7 minutes, 43.88 seconds. His performance moved him to third all-time in the Wisconsin record book and now ranks No. 10 in the NCAA and No. 4 in the Big Ten this season. The time also stands as a new Israeli national record and marked an eight-second personal best for the Shimshit, Israel, native.
In the Windy City, the Badgers collected several top finishes at the Blue Demon Alumni Invite. Cillian Gleeson finished second in the mile with a personal best time of 4:04.93. Wisconsin swept the 3000-meter podium, led by Nick Gilles, who won in a personal-best 8:04.61. Johnny Livingstone finished second in 8:09.25 and Micah Wilson took third in 8:14.11. Farraj Al Amin competed in both the 200 and 400 meters, with times of 22.86 and 50.40, respectively, while Augustus Couard-Ciechanoski placed seventh in the pole vault with a clearance of 15-3 (4.65m) and Kyle Clabough earned sixth in the shot put with a heave of 57-10 ½ (17.64m)
Down south, Joshua Onwunili advanced out of the 60-meter prelims at the Jarvis Scott Invitational and later ran 6.74 in the semifinals, moving him from No. 10 to No. 7 on the Wisconsin all-time list. Andrew Casey finished third in the 800 meters in 1:49.43, Henry Risser followed behind in 24th with a time of 1:54.09. Jalen Williams rounded out the performers for the Badgers on day one, winning the 400 meters with a time of 46.10.
Up Next: The Badgers return to the track in Texas at 11:00 a.m. CT for day two of the Jarvis Scott Invitational.
