Wisconsin collects bronze in 200 free relay
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — The No. 15 Wisconsin women's swim and dive team put together an impressive performance on the second day of competition at the Big Ten Championships in Minneapolis, Minn. Highlighted by a school-record from freshman Brooke Corrigan, Wisconsin (384.0 points) sits in fourth place overall and just 14 points from second place, Indiana (398.0). Eighth-ranked Michigan leads with a score of 517.5.
How it happened
Corrigan set the tone in the morning session, notching a school record-breaking 59.01 finish in the 100 breast to earn a spot in the A finals. In the evening finals session, the freshman picked up a fourth-place finish.
Senior Hazal Ozkan added to the Badgers' success in the 100 breast, placing seventh with a time of 59.84. Catherine Hughes, Bridget McGann and Arianna Zelen showed well in the event's B finals, finishing in 11th, 14th and 15th, respectively.
Sophomore Maggie Wanezek posted an impressive fifth-place finish in the 200 free with a time of 1:43.45, a second-best all-time finish at UW. Blair Stoneburg rounded out the A finals in the event, finishing in a time of 1:46.16. Senior Abby Wanezek notched a 1:44.84 time in the consolation finals to finish 11th.
Stella Chapman collected a seventh-place finish in the 400 IM in 4:09.84. In the event's consolation finals, Justine Delmas followed suit with a strong 4:11.21 finish.
The Badgers wrapped up the evening with a bronze medal finish in the 200 free relay with a 1:27.35, a top-2 all-time finish.
Competition continues on Friday with the 100 back, 200 breast, 500 free, 50 free and 3-meter diving. Prelims will begin at 10 a.m. (CT) and finals at 5:30 p.m. (CT).
