Five Things to Know: Badgers Open Postseason Action at Big Ten Indoor Championships

Wisconsin looks to capture fourth-straight top-3 finish this weekend in Indiana
MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin men's track and field team travels to Indianapolis for the 2026 Big Ten Indoor Championships, held Thursday through Saturday. This year marks the first time the meet will span three days as the Badgers aim for their fourth consecutive top-three team finish.

1. DMR DOMINANCE: Wisconsin enters the postseason with momentum after breaking the school record in the distance medley relay at Notre Dame. The quartet of Andrew Casey, Jalen Williams, Patrick HIlby and Archie Noakes ran 9:18.44, lowering the previous mark of 9:19.99 set in 2023. The time ranks fourth in the Big Ten and ninth nationally.
2. LOOKING BACK: The Badgers placed third at last year's Big ten Indoor Championship with 83 points, led by a record-setting performance from Jason Swarens, who won the shot put with a personal-best throw of 66-5 (20.24m). Joseph White added a third place finish in the event, while Jalen Williams broke his own school record in the 400 meters by running 45.94 to take second. The Badgers also earned podium finishes from Adam Spencer and Bob Liking in the 3000 meters, Gio Wearing in the 60-meter hurdles and the distance medley relay, while the team's depth showed with four scorers in the 5000 meters.
3. GOING THE DISTANCE: Wisconsin once again enters the championship with one of the strongest distance groups in the conference. In the 3000 meters, Matan Ivri ranks eighth in the Big Ten with a time of 7:43.88, while Archie Noakes sits 11th at 7:51.25. The Badgers' DMR, which broke the school record earlier this season, holds the fourth-fastest time in the conference and the ninth-fastest mark nationally at 9:18.44. In the multis, Darius Jones Jr. ranks sixth in the Big ten in the heptathlon with 5,703 points.
4. SPRINT SUCCESS: The Badgers' sprint group has produced several top-10 conference marks this season. Jalen Williams ranks fifth in the big Ten in the 400 meters with a school-record breaking time of 45.84, while Henry Risser sits 10th in the 600 meters at 1:17.09. Tonovila Hicks ranks 11th in the conference in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.94. Wisconsin also hosts the fifth fastest 4x400-meter relay in the Big Ten, as Micah Walker, Williams, Zion Omotesa and Casey combined to run 3:07.71.
5. UP NEXT: Select Badgers will travel to Arkansas for the NCAA Championships starting Friday, March 13. Athletes who rank top-16 in Division I in their event quality for NCAAs, while relays require a top-12 time.
