Freshman defenseman picks up first career weekly conference honor
MADISON, Wis. – A two-goal, four-point weekend from Luke Osburn in Wisconsin's sweep of Notre Dame on Feb. 6-7 earned him a Big Ten Second Star of the Week nod, the Conference announced on Tuesday.
In Friday's game, the freshman defenseman posted his first-career three-point game, tallying two goals and an assist. His first goal came 4:50 into the first period to open the scoring with a power-play goal.

In the second frame, he put home a one-time shot to give UW a 5-3 lead. The freshman then notched his third point of the night with an assist on junior forward Quinn Finley's game-winning goal in overtime.

In game two, Osburn added a secondary assist on sophomore forward Ryan Botterill's second-period goal to tie the game at four. With the assist, the Plymouth, Michigan, native extended his point streak to four games, notching two goals and seven points over the stretch. In 22 games played, Osburn has five goals and 19 points, and he ranks second among freshmen defensemen in the country in scoring.

His 19 points are also tied for fifth on the Badgers roster and share first among UW freshmen. His five goals are good for second among Wisconsin blue liners and share second among rookies on the roster.
This marks Osburn's first career Big Ten weekly honor and Wisconsin's seventh of the 2025-26 season. Junior forward Quinn Finley was the Badgers' most recent star of the week, earning a third star nod on Dec. 9.
Osburn and the Badgers travel to Columbus to face Ohio State on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 13-14.
