Sophomore forward picks up first career weekly conference honor
MADISON, Wis. – A two-goal, three-point weekend from Gavin Morrissey in Wisconsin's road sweep of No. 6 Penn State n March 5-6 earned him a Big Ten Second Star of the Week nod, the Conference announced on Tuesday.
In Thursday's game, a 7-3 win, the sophomore scored a power-play goal, 17:32 into the third period.. This goal marked Morrissey's 30th point of the year to give him his second consecutive 30-point season to start his NCAA career. He had nine goals and 32 points as a freshman.

On Friday, Morrissey notched a goal and an assist, starting his evening with a helper on junior forward Quinn Finley's goal to give UW a 1-0 lead in the first period.

The Rochester Hills, Michigan, native then scored his second goal of the weekend just 22 seconds into the second frame.

Morrissey was also his regular dominant self in the faceoff circle, going 35-23 for the weekend on faceoffs.
Through 31 games played this year, Morrissey leads the roster with 32 points, with his 24 assists also ranking first on the team. His eight goals are good for sixth. The forward is tied for 20th in the nation in assists, while his 0.77 assists per game rank 15th in the nation.
This marks Morrissey's first career Big Ten weekly honor and Wisconsin's ninth of the 2025-26 season. Sophomore goaltender Eli Pulver was the Badgers' most recent star of the week, earning a third star nod on Feb. 23.
