3. MESSAGE FROM COACHÂ -- After months of training for the spring season, Head Coach Beau Hoopman is proud of all the progress the crew has made. Here's an update from coach:
"We lost a lot of good guys last year, but the seniors are stepping up. Elias Strasman is at elite speed right now. We just want more guys to join him, sub-6:00 for 2K. The more guys you have under 6:00, the more confidence the boat will have, and that's what the winter season is all about. Building confidence. Having a good race this weekend will help a lot of guys recover from the doldrums of winter.
Everybody has been pretty good. Just about everybody is sub-6:30, which is good. It's a smaller team, but that's a good indication of where the freshmen are at. That's a pretty good first year for a lot of the novices, and a few of them are knocking it out of the park.
Some of them really row well and need to get faster on the erg and some of them are real fast on the erg and just need to get better on the water. That's what this first race is for.
We'll get everybody out there for at least one race. Most of them will do two. I'm looking forward to it. I get to see my old freshman coach, Greg Myhr, which is always a good time. You want to get a race under your belt before you go out to California, so we're happy to go out and visit Marietta."
4. WHERE TO NEXT – After UW's weekend in Ohio, they will travel to the West Coast for the Stanford/Cal Invite. Wisconsin will row in Redwood Shores, California, on Saturday and Sunday, April 5 and 6.
