No. 24 UCLA defeats No. 30 Wisconsin, 6-1
LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The No. 30 Wisconsin men's tennis team (11-4, 2-3 Big Ten) dropped a match to N0. 24 UCLA (10-3, 4-0 Big Ten) on Friday night. The Badgers secured the doubles point after a tiebreak win at No. 1, but the Bruins rallied back, earning singles victories on every court to earn the 6-1 victory.
Wisconsin's No. 3 pairing of Matthew Fullerton and Patrik Meszaros dominated on court three, securing a 6-4 victory over UCLA's duo to start the match. The doubles point came down to the match on court one after UCLA took the match at No. 2 doubles.
Michael Minasyan and Ferdinand Kloesters earned a 7-6 (7-5) tiebreak victory over the No. 73 ranked partnership of Spencer Johnson and Aadarsh Tripathi. The Badger duo improved to 9-1 on the season after earning their first win in the No. 1 slot.Â
In singles play, the Bruins hit their stride and took straight set victories on all but one court. Patrik Meszaros fought until the end at No. 2 singles, he forced a 10-point tiebreaker, but ultimately fell to UCLA's Rudy Quan 5-7, 6-4, 0-1 (10-12).
Wisconsin's spring record is now 11-4, and it is 2-3 in conference play.Â
