Maggie Wanezek collects runner-up finish in 100 back at NCAA Championships

Wanezek and Corrigan earn individual All-American honors
ATLANTA — The No. 15 Wisconsin women's swim team closed out the third day of competition at the NCAA Championships in Atlanta, highlighted by Maggie Wanezek's runner-up finish in the 100 backstroke.
In the night's finals session, Wanezek swam a blistering 49.62 race in the 100 back to earn First Team All-American honors and a runner-up finish. The time marks a lifetime best for the sophomore and a top-two all-time finish at UW.
Earlier in the day, freshman Brooke Corrigan collected her first individual All-American honor with an honorable mention 16th-place finish in the 200 breast. The freshman led the Badger breaststroke crew in 2:08.35. Hazal Ozkan finished shortly behind in 20th, touching the wall in 2:09.15.
Senior Blair Stoneburg and junior Hailey Tierney held strong in their individual events. Stoneburg posted a 4:40.85 finish in the 500 free, while Tierney closed out the morning with a 22.37 in the 50 free.
The 400 medley relay crew of Maggie Wanezek, Brooke Corrigan, Lucie Delmas and Abby Wanezek garnered another Honorable Mention All-American finish for the Badger relay. The quartet finished in 3:29.19 to earn a 12th-place finish and top-three all-time finish at UW.
Competition will come to a close tomorrow with the 200 IM, 100 freestyle, 200 butterfly and 200 backstroke. Prelims begin at 9 a.m. (CT) and finals start at 5 p.m. (CT).
