UW heads to South Carolina for seven team tournament
MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women's golf team will tee off at the Wachesaw Shootout on Monday, March 9, at the Wachesaw Plantation Club in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.Â
Five Badgers will start in the lineup: Grace Slocum, Tammy Wu, Kate Brody, Alexia Siehl and Elyssa Abdullah. True freshman Hadley Ashton will compete individually.Â

LAST TIME OUT: The Badgers took 11th two weeks ago at the Westbrook Invitational, hosting the annual event for the 14th time in Peoria, Arizona. UW finished at -2, firing 10-under on Monday's final round to vault up the standings. Sophomore Izzi Stricker led the Badgers with her second top-25 of the year, finishing 21st at -4. She matched a career-low 68 (-4) in the final round, notching seven birdies on the day.Â
THE FIELD: Unlike most tournaments, Monday's shootout will be a one-day, 36-hole, event. Originally slated as a duel between UW and Purdue, five more teams have joined the field since. They'll tee off at 7:00 a.m. CT in a shotgun start, including Purdue, Minnesota, Iowa South Carolina, Coastal Carolina and Augustana. The Badgers have seen two of those programs already this year, beating Augustana at the Illini Invitational. UW fell by one stroke to Minnesota at the Route 66th Invitational, with the sides placing sixth and seventh, respectively.
UNCHARTED GROUND: Monday marks UW's first tournament at the Wachesaw Plantation Club in over a decade. The private golf club is one of the top clubs in Myrtle Beach, offering Lowcountry and undulating fairways. Legendary architect Tom Fazio designed the course, and has famously crafted Quail Hollow, PGA National and Shadow Greek, among several others. Wachesaw is on the banks of the Waccamaw River, and features tree-lined fairways that place a premium on golfers finding the fairway.Â
KATE'S CRUSADE: Junior Kate Brody keeps showing flashes of her 2025 Big Ten runner-up caliber, trying to catch fire before this year's postseason. The Michigan native finished 50th at the Westbrook, but fired a season-low 68 in the first round. That 68 was her lowest round since 2023-24 as she tallied five birdies on the day. Brody closed her fall on a high note, coming in the top-half of the field in the final two events.Â
ON THE HORIZON: Wisconsin will take a week off before heading back to Arizona for the MountainView Collegiate, hosted by Missouri. It'll be UW's third trip to the Grand Canyon State this spring. The Badgers finished fifth at last year's MountainView, placing four golfers in the top-30.Â
