Wisconsin’s second varsity four captures event crown
WORCESTER, Mass. — The Wisconsin lightweight rowing team wrapped up competition at Eastern Sprints on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Massachusetts, on Sunday afternoon. The Badgers collected 20 points across six crews to grab fifth in team standings.Â
How it happened:
Wisconsin's varsity lightweight four "B" crew highlighted the day for the Badgers. Coxswain Charlotte Wise led the Badger crew to a decisive win in 7:29.407, edging out Boston University by just over two seconds. UW second entry in the event, its freshman Wisconsin B crew stacked on a fourth-place finish in the event, just under five seconds shy of their Badger counterparts.
The freshman duo of Quenby Swanson and Maya King set the tone in the double "B" final with a runner-up finish in 7:56.577, holding off competition from Radcliffe and MIT. Â
UW continued its success in the varsity lightweight double grand final, as the duo of Liliana Elliott and Becca Rasmussen covered the distance in 7:41.304 for a third-place finish.Â
The varsity eight crew, coxed by senior Emilie Rochon, improved on their morning's performance with a dominant showing in the event's Petite Final. Wisconsin dropped just over three hundredths of a second off its qualifying time from the morning to beat out Sacred Heart by 20 seconds.Â
