
Five Things to Know: Badgers finish up season at NCAA Outdoor Championships

Two Badgers are headed to Eugene
MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin men's track and field team wraps up its collegiate season with the NCAA Outdoor Championships on Wednesday and Friday. The meet will take place at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, and will be hosted by the University of Oregon.
The Badgers will bring two athletes to the meet, Joshua Onwunili in the 100 meters and Matan Ivri in the 1500 meters, who hope to qualify for Friday finals in their respective events. Onwunili needs to finish in the top two of his section or earn one of three time-qualifiers to advance to Friday, while Ivri needs to finish in the top-five of his section or grab one of the two time-qualifying slots.

1. UNSTOPPABLE ONWUNILI: Despite entering the meet ranked 20th in the NCAA West Region, Joshua Onwunili came through as the No. 11 runner in the men's 100 meter, successfully meeting the top-12 requirement for Nationals with a time of 10.20 seconds. This will be Onwunili's first trip to the National stage as an individual.
Onwunili is set to race on Wednesday at 8:25 p.m. CT with the final to take place on Friday at 7:52 p.m. CT.
2. MATAN MAKING MOVES: Matan Ivri took control of his heat at the NCAA West Regional, leading the race through 800 meters. In a highly competitive heat with some of the best in the nation, Ivri maneuvered into fifth place, surviving the final kick to qualify for the national stage. With a 3:38.13, Ivri enters Eugene with the sixth-fastest time from the Regional weekend.
Ivri will race on Wednesday at 7:21 p.m. CT with the final on Friday set for 7:12 p.m.
3. AWESOME ANDREW: Junior Andrew Casey took down the Badgers' school record in the 800 meters on Sunday, winning his section of the Adrian Martinez Classic in 1:45.08. Casey is one of three current Badgers on the top-10 list in the 800 meters as Patrick Hilby ranks fourth with a time of 1:46.03 while freshman Henry Risser is ninth with a mark of 1:47.33.
4. NATIONALS REWIND: The Badgers had a successful campaign at last year's NCAA Championship, with seven athletes competing. Jason Swarens won the national title in the men's shot put with a heave of 69 feet, 8 inches (21.23m). Adam Spencer placed fourth in the 1500 meters, running a 3:47.50, while Joseph White finished 9th in the shot put with a 63-4 (19.30m) toss.
5. MICK'S FINAL MEET: After 18 years with UW, Mick Byrne, the Director and Head Coach of the Cross Country and Track & Field programs, is retiring. In his time in Madison the Badgers have had seven Olympians, one NCAA Team Championship, 18 Big Ten Championships, 121 First-Team All-American Honors, 34 Coach of the Year Honors and much more.
