Vitas finishes first in semifinals at 2026 World Rowing Championship

Three Badger Americans finished in competition after Thursday’s events
Amsterdam – Following competition on Thursday in the 2026 World Rowing Championship, two Wisconsin athletes representing the U.S. will continue racing throughout the week and three Badgers have finished their contests.
Thursday morning, Sophia Vitas (Franklin, Wisconsin) aided her boat to secure first place in the women's quadruple sculls semifinal 2. Accompanied by Kristina Wagner, Evan Park and Emily Kallfelz, the crew recorded a time of 07:26.18. They will compete in final A on Saturday, Aug 29.
Additionally, Vitas will compete on Saturday in the mixed double sculls heat 3.
Claire Freidlander (Philadelphia) also competed Thursday in the lightweight women's single sculls final A. Freidlander came in fifth place with a time of 07:44.96. Mexico's Kenia Lechuga Alanis finished first in the event clocking a time of 07:29.16.
Lauren O'Connor (Belleville, Wisconsin) will continue her championship appearance Friday, Aug 28, in the women's single sculls quarterfinal 2. The 2024 Olympian qualified for the quarterfinals on Wednesday with a second-place finish in heat 4 and a time of 07:59.14.
Badger duo Isabela Darvin (Madison, Wisconsin) and Grace Joyce (Northfield, Illinois) finished their competition Wednesday in the women's double sculls final C. They earned fourth recording a time of 07:26.18.
