Trask on Catalano: "I've been recruiting the Chicago area since the early 90s and Michael is one of those special midfielders who can do so many positive things for a soccer team. Physical strength, sublime technique and understanding of rhythm within a soccer team are just some of his many qualities. Mike is also an outstanding student and will increase the level of intelligence with which we play. I've worked with many Big Ten Player of the Year athletes over my career (Tomislav Zadro, Lazo Alavanja, Todd Yeagley, Dema Kovalenko, Aleksey Korol, Brian Maissonueve) as well as LA Galaxy midfielder Baggio Husidic (UIC), and I feel that Michael can be in the same category of these players."
Tiemeyer on Catalano: "Michael has all the attributes you look for in a center midfielder: passing ability, passing range, ball-winning ability, long-range shooting ability, voice, intelligence, competitiveness, physical range, etc. He is a product of the Chicago Magic Soccer Club where he trained under the direction of Louis Mateus. With continued development and maturity, Michael has the ability to achieve great success both on and off the field at UW."
Why Wisconsin? "When I visited UW, it felt like a place I could call home. The UW business program is nationally renowned, which I want to be a part of. The opportunity to play soccer in the Big Ten for this coaching staff is very appealing."
