Reason for choosing UW-Madison: Obviously, I gelled immediately with the girls on the lightweight team when I met them on my official visit and I was ecstatic to continue my competitive athletic career as part of an elite, high performing college team. But I tried to look at the school objectively; I asked myself, "if, for some reason, I experienced a debilitating injury and could never row again (which I do not plan on having), would I still want to be at UW-Madison?" The answer was a resounding "yes." The pride that the students have for the school emanates from the campus. I can still feel the joy and honor of the students who are "Badgers." This was an extremely important quality in a school that I did not find in any other school I visited. I wanted, and now experience, a school where people were happy, proud, and spirited, and I found that at UW-Madison.
What Wisconsin rowing means to you: To me, Wisconsin rowing is a team of girls who support, push, and respect each other. Wisconsin rowing, while a sport in its simplest form, is an opportunity. It is an opportunity to work as part of something greater than one's self, to push the girls next to you to bring the pride we feel to be Badgers on to the course, to show other teams as well as ourselves the devotion that we have to defend the Badger name, defend what UW-Madison stands for, and to defend each other.
