Paul Hickman

Paul Hickman is in his 17th season with the Wisconsin women's hockey program in 2016-17. Hickman, who graduated in 2002 from the UW with a degree in zoology, serves as director of operations and equipment manager for the Badgers.

Hickman, a native of Oakton, Va., spent three seasons as a student equipment manager with the program prior to his full-time position. A former Reston Raiders goaltender in Reston, Va., he is in charge of the business operations of the program. His duties as director of hockey operations include the coordination of all elements of team travel and scheduling. He also handles the purchase and maintenance of equipment.

Hickman has been chosen to represent the University of Wisconsin and the United States on a number of occasions. In 2007, Hickman went with UW head coach Mark Johnson and seven current and former Badgers to assist the United States women's national team at the IIHF World Women's Championship in Canada. The team went on to claim the silver medal. In August 2007, Hickman served as the equipment manager for the U.S. Under-18 select team during a three-game series against Canada. He worked with the same team during the 2008 Under-18 World Championship in January. Hickman also worked with the Under-22 select team in 2003 and 2006.

Hickman has been selected to help at the U.S. women's player development festival on two additional occasions. In 2003, he helped with the 16/17-year-old group and in 2004 he worked with the 17/18-year-old group. He has worked with the WCHA Women's All-Star team on its tour for three years, serving as equipment manager in 2001, 2005 and 2009.

Hickman, an athlete in his own right, is an avid cyclist who has tried his hand competing in triathlons over the past few years. His accomplishments include completing nine Ironman Wisconsin competitions since 2007.

Hickman is a third-generation Badger; his father Jack and grandfather John both graduated from the UW. Grandfather John Hickman also holds a master's degree and a Ph.D. from Wisconsin. He is a UW Hall of Fame member along with a former swimming coach and associate athletic director. 

In July of 2012, he married Carrie Nixon and the couple and their sons, Forge and Reagan, reside in Orfordville.
