Badger junior goaltender Scott Kabotoff (Sherwood Park, Alberta) was named the WCHA 's Defensive Player of the Week for his play in the UW's two-game sweep at UMD this past weekend. In recording their first sweep of the 2001-02 campaign, the Badgers limited the Bulldogs to just two goals in the series.
Kabotoff made a career-high 43 saves in Friday night's 5-1 win, including 16 and 17 in the second and third periods, respectively. In Saturday night 's 4-1 victory, his 19-save first-period performance turned into a game 39 by the end of the game.
On the weekend, Kabotoff stopped 82 of 84 Bulldog shots on goal (30 on the power play), for an amazing .976 save percentage. He helped to anchor a Badger defense which limited UMD to just one power-play goal on 14 attempts.
Through the first eight games of the season, Kabotoff has started six games with a 4-2-0 record, 2.33 goals-against average and a .936 save percentage. In league games only, he paces his peers with a stellar 1.33 goals-against average and .966 save percentage.
The Player of the Week honor is Kabotoff's first as a Badger.
