Badgers Shutout by Huskies, 1-0
November 16, 2001 | Men's Hockey
The Wisconsin Badgers lost to the Michigan Tech Huskies tonight, 1-0, in their first shutout in over a year. The last time the Badgers were held scoreless was at Minnesota on Nov. 3, of last season, with a final of 4-0. Tonight is the Huskies first time blanking the Badgers in Madison.
After a scoreless first period the Huskies' Jon Pittis scored the game's only goal at 2:22 in the second. He was assisted by freshmen Colin Murphy and Clay Wilson. The goal was the sophomore's fifth of the season.
Wisconsin goaltender Scott Kabotoff had 32 saves, with 12 coming in the third period. The Badgers had 21 shots on goal and all were saved by Michigan Tech goaltender Brian Rogers. It was the junior's first career shutout in 48 games.
Michigan Tech entered the game with one of the poorest penalty kills in the league, having allowed 20 power play goals in its first eight games. Tonight, however, both teams struggled on the power play, each going 0-7.
The Badgers try to even out the series tomorrow night when they meet Michigan Tech on the ice at the Kohl Center. The puck drops at 8:05 p.m.
