Men's Swimmers Wrestle Wildcats' Wake

The Wisconsin men's swimming and diving team defeated the Northwestern Wildcats, 187-101, Thursday night at the UW Natatorium. The Badgers improve to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in Big Ten play.
'We had some new people step up today to help carry us to the win,' coach Eric Hansen said.
Freshman Adam Mania (Hickman, Neb.) won the 100-yard backstroke (:50.93), Badger rookie Tim Liebhold (Chapel Hill, N.C.) touched first in the 200 backstroke (1:50.31) and fellow classmate Andrew Ackley (Raleigh, N.C.) edged out the competition in the 500 freestyle (4:35.56). In a close finish, Ackley beat NU's Mike Shue, who finished in a time of 4:35.64. Ackley also finished second in the 1000-yard freestyle (9:32.58).
Sophomore Dale Rogers (Oroville, Calif.) placed first in two events for Bucky, grabbing the top time in the 50 free (:20.59) and 100 free (:45.31).
The Badger relays continued to perform well, capturing firsts in both events ' the 400 medley and the 200 freestyle relays. Lance Jones (Corning, Calif.), Matt Marshall (Chico, Calif.), Mania and Rogers led Bucky to victory in the 200 free relay with a 1:23.07.
Diver Kevin Engholdt (Waukesha, Wis.) put eight points on the board for Wisconsin in his first meet of the season. Enghold sat out the Badgers' first four meets with a broken hand.
Wisconsin competes next in Minneapolis, Minn., at the Minnesota Invitational, Nov. 16-18.
