Badgers Fall to Seawolves, 4-1
December 01, 2001 | Men's Hockey
The Badgers dropped to 6-7-0 on the season and 4-3-0 in WCHA play with a 4-1 loss at Alaska-Anchorage on Friday night. The UW was outshot 41-12 by the 3-8-2 Seawolves, including a 35-7 shots on goal deficit after the first two periods of play. The lone bright spot for the UW was the play of its goaltenders as starter Scott Kabotoff stopped 31 shots in the first and second periods, many from the slot at point-blank range. Teammate Bernd Bruckler replaced Kabotoff in goal for the third period, stopping all six UAA shots.
UAA scored first at 3:23 of the opening period and never trailed following that score. The Badgers' Matt Doman knotted the game at 7:01on a power-play goal set up by Matt Hussey. Hussey controlled the puck all the way up ice to the right of Seawolf netminder Kevin Reiter. He skated around a UAA defender to get a shot off and Doman put the rebound in.
The remainder of the game was all Alaska Anchorage, as they shut the UW down in the final two periods and only allowed the Badgers 10 shots on goal in the final two periods.
Wisconsin was 1-5 on the power play and held UAA scoreless on three man-advantage attempts. The 12 shots on goal are the second-fewest by a Badger team in UW history.
