Ladies' Night 2001 A Huge Success
August 03, 2001 | Football
Badger fans took to the field Thursday night at Camp Randall for the second annual Wisconsin Football Ladies' Night with the Badger Coaches. But for these women, the Badger coaches and players handled the cheering as Ladies' Night participants called the plays, ran the formations and completed the passes.
Head coach Barry Alvarez, quarterbacks coach Jeff Horton and the rest of the Wisconsin coaching staff, along with the coaches' wives and daughters, welcomed over 600 women to this years' event sponsored by the Mendota Gridiron Club.
This year's veteran Badgers joined their coaches during on-field demonstrations of the Wisconsin offense and defense. Quarterbacks Brooks Bollinger and Jim Sorgi played receivers to their volunteer fan counterparts, while linebacker Jeff Mack, tight end Mark Anelli and close to 20 of their teammates displayed drills and plays for their fans. Energetic volunteers from the crowd joined in all of the on-field demonstrations to learn the basics of Wisconsin football from the Badgers.
Following the field exercises, coach Alvarez answered questions sent in via e-mail by the Ladies' Night participants. Alvarez laughed along with the crowd to questions regarding why his two quarterbacks couldn't play at the same time and his choice for either boxers or briefs, but drew cheers after explaining the importance of his own wife Cindy's role as the real 'head coach '.
Off the field, coach Horton awarded sixty door prizes donated by Madison area businesses to women attending the event. Additionally, every woman walked out of Camp Randall with a gift bag of Badger gear including this year's media guide and other merchandise courtesy of the University Bookstore.
The Badger football coaches would like to thank the following businesses for their donations:
