Badger Openweights Fourth at Big Tens

The Wisconsin women's openweight crew finished fourth at the Big Ten Rowing Championships for the third consecutive year on Saturday.
The Badgers earned 80 points to edge fifth-place Minnesota by two points. Ohio State broke Michigan's two-year hold on the league title with four race wins and a 138-point performance. Michigan finished second with 124 points, while Michigan State was third with 109 points. Iowa and Indiana took sixth and seventh, respectively.
Wisconsin took one of the the six races competed, winning the second novice eight. The No. 1 seed in the event, Wisconsin won by just over five seconds with a time of 7:02.6. Iowa finished second in 7:07.7.
The Badgers were second in the varsity four to Michigan State, the only school other than Wisconsin and Ohio State to win an event. The Spartans clocked a 7:25.9 to nose past Wisconsin, which finished in 7:26.6.
In the premier event, the varsity eight, the Badgers finished second in the petite final and sixth overall in 6:39.9. Ohio State won the grand final of the varsity eight in 6:29.5, while Iowa finished fifth and won the petite final in 6:36.8.
In other races, the Badgers finished third in the novice eight, fourth in the second varsity eight and fifth in the second varsity four.
Two Badgers were named to the All-Big Ten Team. Junior Marianna Waters was Wisconsin's lone choice for the first team, while senior captain Bridgid Myers, a First-Team All-Big Ten selection in 2001, was chosen to the second team this year.
The Badgers next compete at the Eastern Sprints on the Cooper River in Camden, N.J. Wisconsin races on Sunday, May 12.
