Leonhard Nets Interception Crown
January 07, 2003 | Football
Now that the 2002 college football season is over, it's official: Wisconsin sophomore Jim Leonhard is the nation's Division I leader in total interceptions and interceptions per game.
Leonhard, who walked-on at Wisconsin in the fall of 2001, registered a Big Ten record-tying 11 interceptions this past season. That is 0.79 picks per game, just ahead of Washington State's Jason David (0.70 per game).
Leonhard is the first Badger to lead the nation in any statistical category since Jamar Fletcher's 0.67 interceptions per game paced all Division I players in 1998. Leonhard is just the sixth Badger ever to lead the NCAA in a statistical category.
