December 17, 2003 | Women's Hockey
The Wisconsin women's hockey team moved up one spot to No. 4 in the latest USA Today/American Hockey Magazine Women's College Hockey Poll for Dec. 16.
The Badgers have bounced between the No. 5 and No. 6 national rankings throughout the season, but this week marks the Badgers' first time knocking down three-time defending NCAA champion Minnesota-Duluth in recent history. The UW also remains just behind UMD at No. 5 in the U.S. College Hockey Online Poll for Dec. 15.
As the Badgers and the Bulldogs battle for a spot in the top four nationally, both polls rank undefeated Minnesota first, undefeated Harvard in second place and Dartmouth in third.
Wisconsin improved to 12-4-0 overall and 8-4-0 in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association after splitting a road series against Minnesota-Duluth, Dec. 5-6. The Badgers fell to the Bulldogs, 3-0, in game one, but rallied back to win game two, 3-2.
Following a series in Long Beach, Calif., against Northeastern, Jan. 10-11, Wisconsin returns to open up the second half of the WCHA season with a rematch against Minnesota-Duluth, Jan. 17-18. Both games are slated to start at 2:05 p.m. at the Kohl Center and Saturday's contest will be broadcast live on NewsTalk 1310 WIBA by WIBA sports director Brian Posick and former Badger Julia Ortenzio.
