Penney Named First-Team All-District

Wisconsin senior guard Kirk Penney was named first-team All-District 11, the National Association of Basketball Coaches announced on Tuesday. The 150 student-athletes, from 15 districts who were selected, are now eligible for the NABC Division I All-American Team to be announced at the conclusion of the 2002-2003 NCAA men's basketball season.
Penney, a second-team selection last year, is joined by Illinois ' Brian Cook, Michigan's LaVell Blanchard, Marquette's Dwyane Wade and Eastern Illinois' Henry Domercant on the District 11 first team. Penney is the only player in the Big Ten to rank among the top 10 in the conference in scoring, rebounding and assists.
A first-team All-Big Ten choice a year ago, Penney has led the Badgers to an 18-5 record, including an 8-3 mark and a share of first place in the Big Ten. He is averaging a team-best 16.7 points and 3.17 assists along with 6.1 rebounds. He is the top rebounder among Big Ten guards.
Penney and the Badgers are in University Park, Pa., for tonight 's game against Penn State. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:07 p.m. (CST). The game will be televised locally by Fox Sports Net North and can also be hear on UWBADGERS.com over the Badger Radio Network.
